One of the most notable Waltham wristwatches was the Vacuum series. Originally launched in 1968, they were marketed extensively in the Asian market in the late 1970s. The Waltham Vacuum watch features unique abilities and materials, like corumdum cases, and the ability to operate in a vacuum.

Today we are presenting an iconic timepiece! Yes, this is a vintage Waltham Vacuum automatic wristwatch, reference 177240 and dated from the 1970s.

It is a self-winding watch powered by a Waltham movement caliber ETA 2836, 23 jewels, sweep second, day/date indicator, 28,800 A/h, 40 hours power reserve, Swiss made.

Still the original and unique tiger-eye dial featuring white/gold elongated hour markers, minute/second track, original white matching hands. The day/date is located at 3 o’clock. The dial is also signed with the Waltham name/logo, Automatic, Vacuum and the Vacuum logo (Magdeburg Hemispheres) at 12 o’clock as well.

What makes this watch very special is the 36mm cushion vacuum sealed case, all in stainless steel. Water, dust, and smog protection. Sapphire crystal and yellow gold-plated stainless-steel crown with 20 shaped facets.

It comes on a vintage 100% stainless-steel fold over clasp bracelet.

This watch is in good condition. It runs very well and keeps great time.

We prefer to shoot photographs outside when weather is permitting. However, when we shoot indoors, please be aware that we shoot our photographs inside of lightboxes that are lit with 360 LED bulbs. This indeed magnifies any flaws. Usually, they are much less obvious to the naked eye. Having said that, we never photoshop any of our photography, remove blemishes, etc. We adjust lighting when necessary, but what you see is what you are getting, and we take pride in that.
